What Could Be The Reason For Not Showing Foetus In 7 Weeks Pregnancy?

my daughter in law is 7 weeks pregnant so she says, but the ultrasound shows a sac but no fetus. this morning she is going for a 2nd ultrasound hoping that they will find it, if not they will do a d&c. I was wondering is there such a thing of a fetus in hiding?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

There is no such thing as a hiding fetus ma'am. If at all the fetus is not found then it has most probably suffered a missed abortion. But at times, quite early in pregnancy it cannot be visualised, if at all this is the case then a repeat scan done in a few days time gives it time to grow and be visualised. So a D&C would be warranted if the fetus is not visualised in the next scan, so your daughter in law can start trying to conceive soon. I am sorry you had to hear this.
