What Could Be The Reason For Pain Under Ribs On The Right Side Which Hurts When Coughing, Sneezing Or Laughing?
For about 3 months I have had side pain mostly under my right side just under ribs. Doesn't hurt to bend or pick something up but hurts when coughing, sneezing or laughing. I know I sound like a big baby but scared to tell Dr. I'm 49 yo male little overweight.
Hi Thanks for the query. Two differential diagnoses can be made from the typical description of pain given by you - i) pleuritic chest pain, ii) gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). For the first one you may take paracetamol 650 mg tablets three times daily after food for 3 days and for the 2nd diagnoses you need to take pantoprazole tablet 40 mg twice daily before food for at least 1 month along with life style modification like avoidance of fatty, spicy and fast food, drink 3-4 liter of water per day, avoidance of coffee, tea, chocolates etc and sleep in a high pillow. Thank you. Regards Dr Arnab Maji
