What Could Be The Reason For Smelly Vagina With Sensitive Vaginal Lips Making Sex Painful?

Hello. I am a 22 years old female. I have had periods of my vagina smelling awful, since around the beginning of July. In May, I had two different male partners, one of which is now my current boyfriend (I have been monogamous with him since about June 1st). In late June, I was tested for STD s when I got my yearly supply of birth control and was found STD free. Yet, my vagina has been smelling foul like fish. During July, the smell would last for a few days, but it was typically around the time before and after my period, so I attributed the smell to that.In august, I was off birth control for a month, but only had sex a few times with my boyfriend. I began birth control again at the beginning of september, and skipped the placebo week. My vagina was smelling pretty normal around this time. It started smelling really terrible again around October, and then cleared up for a few weeks. Now, for the last three weeks, my vagina has smelled extremely fishy and foul. I haven t really changed my diet in any way...I eat very organically and healthy. I am really concerned as to why it continues to smell the way it does, considering I shower daily and have been exceptionally attentive to keeping that area clean. A couple of weeks ago, my vagina was extremely itchy. My vaginal lips have also been very sensitive ...way more so than usual....making sex hurt and unenjoyable. Is there any hope for me?! :(

Based on your description, it sounds like a common case of bacterial vaginosis, which is easily treatable with a prescription from your doctor. Please make sure to see your doctor so you can get treated! There definitely IS hope!
