What Could Be The Reason For Stiffness In Legs Where Arthritis Is Ruled Out And Could It Be The Side Effect Of Ststin Taken For Long Term?

Hello, I have been having pain in both legs, I have ruled out arthritis, but as it is getting colder the legs are stiffer to move and I am unstedy. What could cause this. My doc. Thinks it might be a reaction from the ststin that I have been taking for 15 years, I haven t taken them in a month.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

You have not mentioned about the duration, site and nature of your pain. Generally, there will be "Physiological" (Normal) stiffness in the soft tissues of the joints when exposed to cool climatic conditions.

Statins will generally produce a "crampy" like pain in the involved muscles but are unlikely to produce stiffness. To know whether the muscle damage has really occured due to statin drugs, CPK (creatine phosphokinase) test is to be done, which will be elevated in case of muscle damage.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
