What Could Be Wrong Having Pain In Upper Stomach Radiating Towards Back And The Medications For Acid Reflux Has Not Helped?

For 11 days now, I've had constant gnawing hunger like pains in my upper stomach just below my sternum and sometimes radiating into my back. An ultrasound and blood tests say that my pancreas, kidneys and gall bladder are fine. I also have a sore throat and headaches. I also have headaches, nausea and a constant sore throat. My Dr. put me on Protonix for acid reflux and told me to see if that helps in the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, I'm miserable, and everything feels worse at night and is keeping me up and even waking me up some times when I do happen to fall asleep. Should I go ahead and schedule an appointment with a gastroenterologist or wait it out? I'm worried that something is seriously wrong. What could be wrong with me? Should I be worried about diabetes or something totally different than my family Dr has checked for already? Any suggestions?

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

It appears that are having peptic ulcer disease since you have hunger pains. However pain that radiates to back is usually of pancreas but it is normal in ultrasound. So I will advise you to visit a Gastroenterologist who will do endoscopy to confirm ulcer disease and if that comes to normal then CT abdomen to see for the pancreas as ultrasound may be normal

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
