What Could Blood Stained Urine And Low Hemoglobin Count Indicate?

Hello, my friend is male and 82 years of age. He doesn't go to doctors. Right now he is seeing a doctor for the first time in decades. He has an appointment with a urologist. He told me that for two years he has had blood in his urine and now the doctor says his hemoglobin is around 82 which is low according to the doctor. He is getting more blood tests and had a ultrasound last week. It is another week before he sees the urologist. What could this be? I am not telling him that I am asking about his health. He is a good friend and neighbour. I will let the doctors tell him anything important. Thank you for any information

Hi,
Blood stained urine is usually hematuria or rarely hemoglobinguria. If it is hematuria, it could be secondary to stones in kidney, ureter or bladder or a tumor. Associated loin pain or mass needs to be evaluated for. Ultrasound could help in confirmation of the Pathology. Hemoglobinuria is very rare at this age as a starting condition.
Low hemoglobin could be due to chronic blood loss as has occurred here in the urine. Concomitantly nutritional defeciency or iron, vit b12 and folic acid could have also occurred leading onto reduced hemoglobin. A routine hemogram will confirm probable cause.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further doubts, happy to help.
