What Could Blue Spots On Back Be Indicative Of?

I am fair-skinned and have noticed a couple of bluish spots on my back during the past few months. They are not large, but look as if they could be bruises. However, I have not been bruised and they have not gone away. I am 63 years old. Do you have any ideas about what they may be?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern for blue spots on back.

After reading your query it appears to be senile spots or also known as senile purpura. It is caused by leakage of blood under the skin due to weak wall of blood vessels and capillaries.

I suggest you tot go for routine blood tests including bleeding time, clotting time and platelet counts.

Get yourself checked by a primary care physician to rule any other cause of the same.

Increase vitamin C content of your diet.

All the best.
