What Could Bumps On The Head With Frequent Headache Suggest?

I have a small bump on the left side of my head that I noticed in March it is very hard, also hard to see because of my hair. I feel like I am having more frequent headaches but also I am prone to headaches. Should I get it checked out?? Could it be something with cancer I only ask because two people I know Have cancer right now so it s made me more aware but it could also be nothing and I m just over reacting. Please advise. Thanks!!

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. To relieve your anxiety, first let me tell you that scan swellings are usually benign (non-cancerous). Now to reach upto some conclusion, I ll provide you details of few commonest swellings of scalp

: Sebaceous/dermoid cyst - These are firm, well circumscribed, round swellings, mobile over skull, skin may not be mobile over it.

They are usually asymptomatic unless infected or rupture. Treatment may include observation only if small size and not increasing in size or surgical excision if large, patient wants removal or infected. Headache does not occur due to it.

: Bony swelling - These could be osteoma, fibrous dysplasia. They are hard swelling, round, margins continue with skull bone, skin free over it but swelling is immobile.

It can be confirmed by X ray skull or CT head. Treatment includes either observation if small and asymptomatic or surgical excision if large and symptomatic. These are benign and no chance of cancer due to them.

Now you can correlate your features with above swellings and get treatment accordingly. Consult doctor to confirm it and further management. For headache, you can take
: Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: avoid stress
: take bed rest
: Daily sleep for 8 hours at least
: If still no relief, provide more details by asking another question or you can consult it with doctor while discussing about swelling.

Hope it will you. Thanks. Take care.
