Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Cause A Popping Like Sensation On Left Interior Of Calf Muscle?
Two weeks ago Friday I had a pop happen in my left interior calf muscle. Now my ankle is swollen and my foot has bruising. I have RICE and been taking ibuprofen for pain and swelling. I also have been using crutches to keep weight off of my foot only hobbling around the house. The pain has subsided since the original date of injury. I have been wearing an ACE bandage to work ( I am a teacher) and using my crutches at school. Today I came home and my ankle is swollen and the foot is still bruised. Should I be doing something else to help heal?
I have studied your case with diligence. As per your history pattern there can be intra muscular tear or near tendon.
I will advise to do MRI leg for soft tissue involvement or Ultrasonography as there is possibility of DVT. Till time you can continue physiotherapy exercises and also use supportive splint or brace. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS will help in early healing.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
