What Could Cause Bleeding And Irritation After Having Intercourse?

This is day 6 of my cycle and I was clean without any evidence of bleeding since last night. I had intercourse withy husband this evening during which I felt se discomfort/ burning. Within 1-2 hours I noticed fresh blood. Is this bleeding likely due to trauma/ irritation from the intercourse or is it still part of my menstural cycle (left over bleeding brought on by intercourse? Please advise Thank you
