What Could Cause Blood In Stool While Suffering From Grave's Disease?

My daughter has graves disease and she just let me know that about every month or so when she uses the bathroom there is blood in her stool, she hasn't been placed on the right meds to regulate her thyroid yet. Could that have anything to do with it or could it be something else?

Hi,

Graves' disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones or hyperthyroidism.
Although a number of disorders may result in hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease is a common cause. Blood in stools in not a common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism and Graves disease. Blood in the stool means there is bleeding somewhere in your daughter's digestive tract.

Possible causes of blood in stool are: diverticular disease, anal fissure, colitis or inflammation of the colon, Polyps or Inflammatory bowel disease. So,blood in stools has nothing to do with Grave's disease.

My advice is to consult your daughter's doctor because it is necessary to do some tests(total blood count to check for anemia,TSH, fT3 and fT4 to regulate the thyroid treatment and a Colonoscopy to check for possible causes of her new symptom.

Hope I have answered your query.
