What Could Cause Delay In Periods And Lot Of Brown Discharge?

Hey, I have been off my period for 4 days and I have had a lot of brown discharge coming out with lower pelvic pain that comes and goes. I have never had sex before, but I do not know what it is.. My mother has a lot of ovarian cysts and she has had surgery in the past.

Hi,

Brownish discharge before the onset of period is normal. This could be dried blood or blood from previous cycles. You can wait for few more days for your cycles to start.

Any history of smelly or excess vaginal discharge should be noted to rule out vaginal infections. Vaginal infections can also cause brownish discharge and antibiotics may be required. Anemia, hypothyroidism, crash dieting and vigorous exercise can also contribute to delayed or absent periods.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
