What Could Cause Delayed Menstruation After Discontinuing Depo Post Its Usage For Over 8 Years?
Hi Doc I have been using depo for more than 8 years now I stopped in 2022 then I got my periods even though there were heavy they stopped I didn’t get any from last month I took a pregnancy test last month it was negative though I had unprotected sex with my partner this month I took another pregnancy test it was negative what might the the reason for the delay please assist?
Menstrual cycle change is the most common side effect of taking Depo Provera shot. With long term use it can stop menstruation altogether or you may have only very light periods. Once stopped it can take up to a year or more for ovulation to occur normally again. So you can have erratic cycles till then. Long term use can cause low bone density. So you can take calcium and vitamin D supplements.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
