I'm 22 years old, female, 27 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have also been sober for almost 4 1/2 years (using IV). I woke up early this morning, well before I needed to be awake and could not fall back asleep due to an odd aching pain shooting from the inside of my elbow to the inside of my wrist. When I finally got out of bed, giving up the attempt to fall back asleep, I noticed that a small bruise about the size of a dime but oval shaped appeared on the inside of my elbow where the pain originated. The bruise is a dark yellow at the moment and it's right on top of a vein. Is there some possible explanation? Should I contact my doctor, if so which one? And how urgent of a matter could this be?
I do not think this is anything serious, although a yellow colour discolouration is more common with a hepatobiliary abnormality, so it would be wise to get your liver enzymes checked. There is no emergency as such so please do not worry about anything. If at all this is a bruise or rash, we will be able to find any possible cause in the blood examination that should include a complete blood count (including the liver function test) and a blood coagulation profile.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
