What Could Cause Extremely Heavy Periods?

I am wondering about my monthly period I have been bleeding extremely heavy now since yesterday, a super plus tampon and pad every hour. I have had fibroid tumors removed in the past. I do have an appointment with my doctor but not until the 28th of may is this something i should be concerned about now?
