What Could Cause Floaters In The Vision Along With Neck Pain And Excessive Thirst?

My son is 21. He works outside doing landscaping. He worked 12 hours today like most days. We live in Michigan and it was 80 degrees. He has been working since spring and has worked in almost 100 degree weather. He is seeing, floaters, lower left back by kidney, left side of neck hurting, and excessice thirst, and he feels spacy not himself. Heart is about 98 beats per minute when usually down is 60 to 70s. He drank 7 waters and 1 poweade today. Ate lunch, protein snack and fruits. He does not look right. But does not want to go to hospital. What could be going on?

Hello,

It looks like your son has undergone severe dehydration. Floaters are actually tiny clumps of gel in or around the areas of dehydration in the vitreous fluid that fills the eye.

Floaters are actually an age-related problem since your son is very young; it probably developed because of dehydration. Give him rehydrating fluids(ORS, Electrol), juices, soups.

Let him take as much normal water as he can. Help the body attain its normal electrolyte balance.

Give him fruits & veggies, adequate rest & help him relax. Excessive thirst due to dehydration caused blurred vision, headache, body ache, neck pain (sprain, injury, degenerative disc, infection or lymph gland), etc.

For relieving from the pain you can give Acetaminophen(Tylenol) or Combiflam, one soon after food.

After relaxation & as body regains hydration, he should feel better & eye problems should also decrease but if you feel he is not responding & sees increased frequencies of flashes (showers of floaters) probably he needs intravenous support then take him to ER for necessary medical help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
