Hi. I used to never be thirsty. I would drink maybe 2 cups of water a day, but now I am constantly thirsty. It's been about 2 weeks of this and I was just wondering why that might be. it very well might be nothing but it was just a weird change so i thought i would ask.
Hello, There are many causes of increased frequency of thirst like 1. dehydration due to profuse sweating, increased urine output, vomiting, diarrhoea. 2. Diabetes mellitus- hyperglycemia leads to increased thirst. 3. Diabetes insipidus- body unable to conserve water. 4. Psychogenic polydipsia. 5. severe sepsis 6. liver, kidney and heart failure. To rule out the cause some test should be done like total blood count, blood glucose level, serum and urine osmolality, serum sodium. Drinking water regulate your body temperature, remove waste products from the body, so adequate water intake is essential. Consult a physician for further management. Take care, bye.
