What Could Cause Immidiate Swelling In Knee Cap Followed By Feeling Of Passing Out After Hard Fall?

I took a fall at 4 am this morning on ice, Not just a slip and slide fell straight down on my face, splat. head bounced off the concrete. Directly under my knee cap swelled up to the size of a tennis ball. ( just some scrapes around it} My nose took the most of my fall but I didnt even get a bloody nose, but I never have gotten hit that hard. I opted to not to go to the Dr, Because I didnt believe anything was broken. So I have 2 questions 1. What would make under my knee swell like that so fast? { It is now severely black and blue} I have had ice on it most of the day on and off} Swelling has gone down dramatically. 2. I was in my kitchen and all of a sudden I got sick and it smelled like ammonia and I fel like I was going to pass out. Any associations with me hitting my face? The bone around my eyes and nose hurt pretty bad, but no bruising. Swelling of the nose and scrapes on it.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
From history it seems that you might be having hematoma on the part after injury. Any injury or fracture is less likely as there is no pain. contine application of ice for more 2-3 days.
The severity of injury to the bone has to be established by an orthopedic surgeon after having xrays for the injured part and has to be treated accordingly.
Hope this helps you. You can consult me again directly through my profile http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-saurabh-gupta/64132
