My father developed leukemia after radiation treatment for prostate cancer. the Dr, said something about him having a gene that made this more likely. Now my brother has prostrate cancer should he have some genetic testing before treatment and if so what?
Hello! While it is true that leukemia has a genetic basis, in your case the 'radiation' your father received during his treatment could also be responsible as a leukemia trigger. Your brother's prostate cancer will be treated on its own merit though the oncologist will keep in mind your family (father's) history of developing leukemia and shall take appropriate measures. Best of luck!
