What Could Cause Light Headedness?

Hi, had grommets inserted in my ear 15 days ago and have felt light headed ever since. Initially I thought it was just the meds in the system, and then I thought it was an infection. My doctor seems to think it s nothing but can it be the grommets still settling in or something giving me trouble? Thanks Nathan

Hi,

The grommets once inserted, will equalize the pressure between the inner and the outer ear. If you had either significantly more or significantly less pressure in the middle ear prior to the grommet insertion, then the rapid normalizing of the pressure when the tubes were inserted can very easily cause lightheadedness to arise.

This can take some time to return to normal. If you had pressure in the middle ear for a long period of time, your body would have adapted to this and the change back to normal would take awhile, to be honest. In my experience, with cases like this, the lightheadedness does resolve but it can take several weeks or even longer to return to normal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
