What Could Cause Sudden Pain All Over The Body, Head And Neck And Loss Of Grip In The Hands In A 26-year-old?

26 yr old son woke up 2 full days ago hurting all over in his body as though he had tore all his muscles. His head, neck, hurt as well. Having a hard time gripping objects with his hands, can t make a fist, there is no fever, His throat was trying to close up on him making him feel he was going to pass out. He said he hasn t been bit by anything that he knows of. Could this be an ellergic reaction to something?

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to ask you some questions:
1. Is he on any medication?
2. When it started?
3. You should mention any food he consumed within 12 hours of happening this.
4. Is there cramping or pain?
5. Is there any eye change like drooping of the eyelid?

Some tests are to be done:
1. Head CT
2. ECG
3. Complete Blood Count
4. Dexamethasone suppression test
5. Chest X-Ray
6. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH)
7. Electromyography
8. Edrophonium test

I also suggest a physical exam and especially muscle grading by a doctor. With the answers and tests results (I know there are many tests, but, I am sorry), you should consult a doctor or ask another question here. I will be following you up.

Do not worry. Tell him to take rest and if possible, the multivitamin can be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
