What Could Cause Swelling And Pain In Ankle After Applying Betnovate Cream?

I have been on betnovate cream around my ankle. The other day I had to go out and put socks on just after applying the cream. The next day my leg is swollen and where the elastic of the sock was, was a black sore lump. I stopped applying it ... three days later it is still sore but now dark red not black... what should I do?

Hi,

It may be the secondary bacterial infection precipitated by applying steroid cream. Consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis and proper treatment. I would recommend you to stop steroid application and apply antibiotic cream like fusidic acid cream. Take a course of antibiotics like cephalaxin 250 mg thrice a day with anti-inflammatory drug. Keep the foot elevated to reduce oedema caused by infection. Wash the area with antiseptic like Dettol.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
