Hello! I took 40MG of fluoxetine earlier for my depression and this has been a issue for me. Sometimes when I swallow my pill it feels like its suck in my throat? And when I breathe in and out it starts hurting. I tried water and cheetos lol but I’m not sure what else to do

Hello,

You are having feelings of something stuck in the throat. When you breathe in and out it hurts. It is not getting relieved with water. Such a feeling or sensation is commonly felt when there is an underlying medical condition like GERD, acid reflux, globus pharyngeus, nasal allergies, dry throat.

It can also be felt due to stress, fatigue, muscle tension, anxiety, etc. You are suggested to take adequate water and fluids to keep your throat mucosa well hydrated. Use a room humidifier to prevent the air from getting dry. Sip water throughout the day and keep cough lozenge in your mouth to keep the mucosa dry. Avoid taking food that causes gas or acidity. Take PPIs for relieve, Antacids are equally effective.

Get clinically examined by an ENT to detect any physical obstruction in the throat. If pathology is detected, it will be removed in the clinic and accordingly treated. If no physical obstruction is detected then psychological factors are considered and CBC, cognitive behavior therapy is recommended. Any underlying health condition will be treated accordingly at the earliest. Managing or reducing stress and anxiety will reduce your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
