What Could Cause White Powdery Small Sores In The Leg That Is Increasing In Number In A Type 2 Diabetic?

My husband has about 5 small sores on his lower leg that are just red at first then develop a white powdery-looking crust. They do not hurt or itch but seem to be increasing...started out with two sores. He is a type 2 diabetic in case that s a connection.

Seems like a skin infection. I suggest him to try an otc topical antibiotic e.g. Neosporin ointment.
