What Could It Be If Having Sore Throat With Swollen Glands, Fever And Difficulty In Swallowing?

I ve had a sore throat for 4 days with swollen glands, fever, and difficulty swallowing. On day 2 with fever strep test came back negative. Fever has diminished, but that is all. I am afraid it is strep, they said it was viral. 3 days off work and little improvement.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi and thanks for the query,
do not worry,

throat infections are frequently viral and the symptoms ususally last for a week.
take pain killers like tylenol or ibuprofen after checking the dosage.
do warm salt water gargling 4 times daily and avoid cold foods and air conditioning.
drink plenty of fluids and have lots of vitamin c rich fruits.
if there is no improvement in 3 more days then you may require antibiotics.
regards,
Dr Rajkishori.
