What Could It Mean To Have A Hard And Extremely Round Abdomen In An Elderly Woman

My 80 year old mother has a very round, hard abdomen appearing 7 months pregnant which has slowly & progressively enlarged over the past decade. She hates her stomach, but also fears doctors (paranoia & fabricated trust issues) & thinks she just needs do sit-ups & loose 20 pounds by walking.

I understand you are concerned about your mother's enlarging stomach. This is a very complicated problem and as a family doctor I would recommend a complete exam of her abdomen. It could just be weight gain but without a physical exam it would be difficult to find a cause. A trusted caring doctor and you accompanying her may reduce her anxiety over the doctor visit.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
