What Could Large Bowel Movements In A Person With Alzheimer's Disease Indicate?
my mother is in hospice late stages of alzhimer she is just taking in juice and maybe 2 boost a day the nurse gave her an inemia and she had a bowel movement that was huge and solid after she had the bowel movement she started talking a little ..the last 3-4 days she has not been talking we were wondering how she can have such a bowel movement with not eating thanks would appreciate any insight.
As one gets older or if they are severely underweight, their gastric motility rate slows down and becomes sluggish. Your mother probably felt much discomfort and because of her current stage in Alzheimer's, she was unable to communicate her bowel concerns. If it's possible for her to be prescribed a fiber supplement and mobilize gently on a daily basis, this may help with the movements. Diet is also a factor. You can gain advice from a dietician who specializes in Old Age Psychiatry.
