Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Orange color discharge is a bit of an unusual symptom. It may be blood mixed with yellow vaginal discharge that is producing this color. It is unlikely that your discharge is caused by vaginal bleeding, as you've not menstruated for many years due to the Depo-Provera shot and it is unusual to all of a sudden have a menstrual cycle after so many years.

Vaginal infections can produce discharge that is yellow resembling pus, and if your vagina or uterus is irritated enough, a small amount of blood cells may be released producing this color discharge. If the discharge has a foul odor itches, it is most likely caused by vaginal infection. The pain can be produced by the irritation and indirectly cause cramping of your uterus.

If you also have excruciating cramping, you may actually be experiencing symptoms of a vaginal or pelvic infection. Therefore, I would strongly recommend that you see gynecologist or other women's healthcare provider who can perform a pelvic examination and diagnose you properly. You may require antibiotics or some form of vaginal jelly to relieve your symptoms.

I hope that I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
