What Could Painful Bruises On Thigh/buttock Suggest?

Hello. Over a week ago I tripped and fell. I hit my outer thight/buttock area on a chair as I fell. It was very painful, but only slightly bruised...until yesterday. A huge, very dark bruise showed up in the area. Is this normal for it to take so long to appear? (FYI The pain has not gotten any better. It has not gotten any worse either. Just staying the same.) Is this something that should be checked by a doctor or does it generally just go away with time?

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thanks for seeking help on your issue; I have gone through your symptoms, and in my opinion, these generally go away with time you need to be concerned if pain persists, only then will you need a consultation with your doctor.
I hope I have been able to provide you with a satisfactory solution, if you want to clear any doubts about my opinion, feel free to contact.
Special note- Any medication prescribed needs to be taken after consultation with your personal doctor only.
Thanks
Dr. Narender Saini
