What Could Possibly Happen After Coming In Contact With A Person Suffering Form Golden Staph ?
Hi, I have just visited my Aunty and gave her a kiss hello and goodbye and during the visit I touched her on the arm a number of times. She was coughing into a tissue then touched me on my arm. Only upon leaving, did she tell me she was being treated for golden staph and showed me her bandaged leg. Am I at risk of catch it? I am worried as I rubbed my eye, whilst there. As soon as I got into the car I rubbed the hand sanitizer over my hands and face and had a shower as soon as I got home.
Hi ! Good afternoon and a Happy New Year 2014. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
No - you do not have to be so much worried or apprehensive as you have washed your hands with a sanitiser and also had a bath. Staph aureus is also found as a normal inhabitant of skin and respiratory tract. Infection can occur if someone has a raw open wound, or have a low immunity like having HIV, or being on chemotherapeutic agents or in very old and debilitated individuals. Therefore, I do not consider you to be at risk of developing a cross infection in the present circumstances.
I hope this information will relive you of your apprehension and anxiety. Good luck.
