Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Well, I think that the main thing to know is that is this
heart rate regular or irregular. It is mainly that short or standing bursts of irregular supraventricular heart rhythm can be accompanied with
shortness of breath and/or
lightheadedness. If this is the case, these arrhythmias are benign if properly controlled, prevented and treated. But, at first, proper diagnostic measures should be done, to confirm or exclude if this is the case. Therefore, my recommendations for tests are:
- EKG: to evaluate the conduction and electrical systems of the heart;
- echo cardiogram: to assess the size of heart chambers, function of the valves and the heart muscle, to see if there is a reason for these bursts to happen;
- 24-hour Holter rhythm monitor: to judge on the electrical and conduction systems of the heart, spun throughout a day.
-
thyroid function tests:
TSH, fT3, fT4, since problems with the thyroid gland can affect the atria and, in one moment or the other, can cause supraventricular arrhythmias.
After these tests are done, feel free to discuss the results here or with your treating cardiologist.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Wish you a good health.
Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
