What Could Reappearing White, Painful Spots On Tongue Indicate?

I get white spots on my tongue which are very painful. It seems I get them at night, and at some point they burst which is painful enough to wake me up. Any idea of what they might be. Sometimes I get several at a time. At one point, I had several of them for 6 weeks and could not eat solid food. Now they seem to go away by midday.

Hi,

There are many factors causing white spots on your tongue including:
- cold/viral infection
- fungal infection
- GERD
- toothpaste you use
- using a non clean toothbrush

I'd suggest to get a tongue swab culture to exclude bacterial/candida infection. If no such infection, then, should :
- keep a good oral hygiene
- use oral antiseptics very often
- do use clean toothbrushes; change it every 3 months
- consult with a dentist to further evaluate your teeth

All the best!
