What Could Severe, Radiating Pain In Lower Abdomen Indicate, Have Ovarian Cyst?

I have sever pain around my belly button on only the right side radiating down to my pelvic area. I feel a little nauseous and like I have to go to the restroom but I don't have to. I do have a cyst on my ovary but it was never big enough to worry about. The pain seems to be worse when I sneeze or breath in and out hard.

Hi,

According to your description the possible causes are:
- Sometimes ovarian cysts if they grow in size that can lead to pain. Torsion or rupture of the ovarian cyst can lead to severe pain associated with nausea.
- Gastrointestinal causes like colitis, appendicitis, etc. can also present with these type of symptoms.
- Renal causes like calculi, infections, etc., can also lead to these types of symptoms.

As the symptoms are severe, better to get examined. By clinical examination and investigations like ultrasound, urine routine and microscopy the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly. So, please consult your gynecologist and get examined. In case of ovarian cyst you may need laparoscopic surgery, infections can be treated with systemic antibiotics. Antispasmodics can give symptomatic relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
