What Could Temperature With Sore Throat And Cough In Children Suggest?

My son is 13 and hot all over, but covers up and his temp. is 103 maybe more because I didn t have it on but a minute. It is one of those lay on the forehead and it colors up in green,but it is not digital and he says his throat is sore and that he has a cough, but I haven t heard him cough that much..must be dry, but won t drink anything? What should I do..I am disabled myself, but my parents live right next door.

Hello,

I have few questions about the fever since there could be many causes of fever and sore throat is just one of the common causes. How long is he having the fever? Is it continues? Are there any chills or rigors? Can you look at his throat to see if you could see any pus in the Tonsil area? The most common cause of fever and sore throat is viral infection where no antibiotics are needed but it may be bacterial too.

I would advise you to start with the Tylenol 2 tabs twice a day along with Tab Zyrtec 10mg once a day and warm saline gargles (This will help relive swelling and pain in the throat). Meanwhile show him to general physician to rule out any bacterial infection. Otherwise it will take few days for a virus to complete its cycle (7-10 days) and it will go away. Take lots of warm fluids like soups and drink enough water.
