What Could The Hip Bulge Be?

I have a bulge that feels tube-like on my left hip on my backside. I just found it recently. It doesn t hurt. I m wondering what it could be. My doctor just recently added a cholesterol medicine to my daily meds. I am uncertain of the name at this time. I have also recently added walking 3-4 miles to my daily routine. I have an appointment this Saturday with my doctor, but was wondering if you knew what the bulge might possibly be. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I have studied your case and I have two possibilities in my mind. First one is it can be lipoma. it is swelling of collection of the fat and it is not dangerous. it is not harmful and can be left alone. If it is causing any discomfort in you then you can get it removed easily through surgery.
Other possibility is that it can be a xanthoma. it is tumor of cholesterol and it is common in obese person. It can be treated by cholesterol lowering medicines. It is also not harmful and if causes pain then can be treated surgically.
