What Could The Thick Discharge During Period Indicate?
My last few cycles have been strange. All through my cycle I have had extremely thick and gooey discharge. It is completely clear in color with no odor. The part that worries me is the smell during my periods. The mucus is very thick and separates from the blood and endometrial material. It smells like rotting meat. I ve been tested (briefly for another issue) for yeast/bacterial infections and have none. I ve had cysts for years. Is this rotten flesh smell something specific?

Hi,
A thick discharge during your period could be a normal variation of menstrual discharge. However, the presence of a strong odor during your period is not normal and may indicate an underlying infection or other medical issue.
The smell of rotting meat during your period is a concerning symptom and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. It is possible that the odor is due to an infection or an abnormal growth, such as a polyp or fibroid. It is also possible that the odor is a result of a hormonal imbalance or changes in your menstrual cycle.
I would recommend making an appointment with your healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms and undergo a thorough evaluation. They may recommend additional testing, such as a pelvic exam or imaging, to help determine the cause of your symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
