What Could Thick, Brown Bleeding With Horrible Odor After Delivery Indicate?

Hi I just gave birth 13 days ago and the bleeding has subsided, however now it's more of a light pink/brownish color and it's thick. Also it smells horrible. I had torn a second degree tear and I only can blot myself after using the bathroom not able to wipe yet. Could that be why it smells so bad? Is this normal?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

Usually, there is discharge after delivery which is called lochia but if it gets infected, it can smell bad. Start an antibiotics course as early as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sujoy S. Bhattacharjee, OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine
