What Do Blood In Urine, Lower Back Pain And Bloating Indicate?
I am an 80 year old female taking an antibiotic for what may be a urinarary tract infection. The urine sample test results are not back. The preliminary test showed some blood in the urine. I have some lower back pain, bloating, gas and pain the the lower abdomen. I started the antibiotic about 20 hours ago and am wondering when I can expect relief
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Blood in the urine has a lot of causes. But if there is no frank blood in the urine, then mostly this is the secondary to the non-serious issue, especially if not for a long time. Urinary tract infection is a common cause.
I would suggest more fluids to take for a while. The antibiotics generally start working after 48 hours depending on the nature of the bug and severity of the infection. Hopefully, it settles on a little more time.
I would like you to repeat your urine test again after completion of the case when it should be no more there. However, frank bloods in the urine that can be seen with own eyes always demand a referral to a urologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
