Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Inflammation And Raised Bumps In The Throat Indicate?
I have a sore throat, with red raised blotches at back of throat. I have a history of reflux gastritis, could that have caused the red raised blotches. I had a throat culture which was negative for strep. I started on Nexium 2 days ago and soreness stoped; but area is still red and raised
I would like to tell you that streptococcal infection is the most common cause of redness and inflammation in the back of the throat. Since, you have already got a throat culture done which came negative, it is ruled out.
Since, you have mentioned that you have reflux gastritis, it can also be a cause of pain and inflammation. You have to get yourself examined by a gastroenterologist who may perform an endoscopy.
Meanwhile, you should avoid taking any spicy and oily food to limit the acid production. Raise the head end of the bed while sleeping to prevent reflux. You can also start taking an antacid like tablet Ranitidine and Syrup Mucaine gel for temporary pain relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
