What Do Itchy Rashes On The Chest And Back Indicate?

I am a 64 year old female that developed a rash late last year. I do have extremely sensitive skin and been like that since I am a child. I developed a itchy, blistery rash on my chest and back. My primary physician did not know what it was and was hoping it was not one of my medications. She referred me to dermatologist and I have been going back and forth since that time. I have another appointment next month. After 5 biopsies, numbers 4 and 5, I was told it was an autoimmune disease but could not be pin pointed as to what disease. I was put on Doxycycline HYC 100 mg 2x daily and Biophix Nicotinamide Vit B-3 Flush Free 1000 mg 2x daily. Could not find the vitamin so I was given Niacin 500mg and was told that would be the closest vit to the one I was told to get. I had a small reaction to that vit the first day and second day, I had what I would call a severe reaction. It was like my entire body had a severe sun burn and I just didn t feel well for several hours. I stopped taking the vit on my own and will let the MD know on my follow up visit next month. The Doxycycline seems to be keeping it at bay. I have had a couple of small breaks outs and the blisters did not fully develop and the rash had disappeared the same day. I do have pinkish, rough skin which appear to be scars but when the rash reoccurs it is in those same areas. I have mentioned this to the MD. After a little research, a friend of mine mentioned Grover Disease. I have found a picture of the rash that is an exact match. Sorry about the length of this but I thought the more information the better. I have also read about the Grover disease. Seems like a match to me. It rare but I am prone to such rare things. My question is, are there any blood tests or other testing that could confirm Grover Disease? Is this Grover Disease? Thank you.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If it is grovers disease, then biopsy should have confirmed it. And it needs complete examination to be seen by a dermatologists, however, u need to take fewer baths and shower. Along with that u should avoid taking hot baths or any warming items. These symptoms in this disease can lasts for 6-12 months or longer in some cases. Moreover, u need to avoid activities which can cause you sweat more. So in short biopsy will be needed to confirm it, and u should avoid hot baths or any warming items and hard workouts or any activity which can make you sweat and fewer baths. You will need antihistamines to relieve itch and may need retinoids as well. these may last for 6-12 months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
