What Do Pain And Burning Sensation In The Left Breast Indicate?
My left breast does not have any lumps or masses nor does my right one... there is no scaling or shafting of the nipple or nipples... but my left breast sometimes not all the time will start to have an increase in pain and a burning sensation in the nipple and around it ... happens more often when they are being played with... rubbed flicked etc... but still it does not happen all the time... maybe every few (3 or more) months at a time... So what is it... it dont stick around long the sensation lasts maybe a week or so then its gone. What do you think it might be?? why only my left breast.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Most causes of pain in breast are benign and not serious. There are a number of harmless causes for breast pain and tenderness that may primarily be related to changes in hormone levels. These can include: Menstruation and premenstrual syndrome (PMS), Mastitis, Menopause and Fibrocystic Breast Tissue which is most common. Fibrocystic breasts are not necessarily linked to cancer, and the lumps are fluid filled cysts rather than a mass of cells. However, it is advisable to do breast ultrasound and mammography just to be sure and start regular follow up of possible cysts. In case of redness, fever and progressive pain this may indicate abscess and then it should be surgically drained or evacuated by needle under control of ultrasound.
