What Do Persistent High BP And Pulse Readings Indicate?

At cardiologist appointment last Thursday my BP was measured at 192/102, weight 237BM34.0 and pulse 72. As a result Cardiologist Started me on 25mg tablet (one per day) of Spironolactone for blood pressure control 7 days ago. I already take a variety of meds for BP, A-fib, and Diabetes. And up until recently, my blood sugar and BP have been pretty stable and in good range. Now, my BP is inconsistent and ranging from 187/102 to 155/87 pulse ranging from 73 to 86. Today, I started with a pain in my left leg this morning which increase in intensity and started feeling not so good, sweaty, and mild anxiety while driving my parts delivery truck. Drove home to check my vitals and got the following readings: 12:10 PM 199/116 83 pulse 12:45 PM 175/106 82 pulse 12:55 PM 177/96 84 pulse I am weak in my legs (especially the left one) and I lack energy. Now after a week of the new medicine, can it be the bad actor here? or do we need to look elsewhere?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

In my opinion, your readings of BP are very high and you are diabetic also. Hence, a careful investigation and treatment accordingly is urgently required in your case. Baseline readings of your kidney functions, sugar levels including HbA1c, lipid profile, baseline heart functions with ECG and TMT and/or echocardiography, if indicated are of primary requirement to proceed further for the management. In the meantime, control of BP and sugar level as well as control of pulse with regard to atrial fibrillation are of utmost priority.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
