Hello. Thank you for writing to us.
Acute
hives or
urticaria usually presents as itchy welts that can be widely distributed over the body.
Acute urticaria is usually allergic and it can be induced either by drugs, food and food preservatives, infection etc.
Since you probably have a viral cold and
cough for which you took the antitussive preparation therefore viral infection this might be the cause of your urticaria.
If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on a short course of an Oral steroid e.g methylprednisolone for a week.
Steroids are antiinflammatory and antiallergics and bring about rapid relief in hives.
Besides oral steroids, you may continue with tab
loratadine, twice daily for a week.
Topically you may use an anti-itch cream Or lotion for symptomatic relief.
