What Do Small Bumps On The Clitoral Hood Indicate?

Hi, I am 26 year old sexually active female. I have been with the same partner for several years and since my last checkup last year, I am std free. I have two or three small bumps near but not on, more above, my clitoral hood. it has been this way for a month. i would say they look like scabs. but they're very small and not very noticeable as I have been too embarrassed to tell my bf and he hasn't noticed. they haven't multiplied. they do not hurt. They itch a little bit, in the way that dry skin does but I don't notice itchiness unless i'm washing the area. I stopped shaving near the area since they came about a month ago. I really don't believe it to be warts or herpes as I read symptoms of both and seen photos. but still curious. Please help!

Hi,

According to your description the lesions you mentioned may not be herpes or warts as you mentioned. The other possible causes are:
- Prominent or infected hair follicles
- Any small cut or injury in process of healing
- Sebaceous cysts, rarely molluscum contagiosum etc.

By clinical examination only, the exact cause of the problem can be identified and treated. So, if the lesions persist or increase in size or/and number, better to consult your gynecologist once, get examined and take treatment accordingly.

Vaginal washes by maintaining local vaginal pH can give symptomatic relief. Try to verify if you are having allergy to sanitary pads, tampons etc and change them.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
