What Do Spasms In The Buttocks Indicate?

i AM 70 years old, very active. once in awhile I will be awaken by spasms in my buttocks that causes my legs to move uncontrolled. It keeps me awake all night off and on. I get up, stretch, but it only helps for a few mintues. Is there anything vitamin etc. that I can take to take this away? I have heard of ropinipole. Is is safe? I thought it was just for other diseases.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like you may have Restless Leg Syndrome. While Ropinirole drug is used for other things, it does seem to also help with restless leg. Talk to your doctor about whether or not this may work for you.

Try stretching regularly several times through the day and at bedtime. Also, a warm bath just before bed may also help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson
