What Do These Blood Sugar Levels Indicate?

I was feeling “light-headed” an hour after eating a full breakfast, so I used my “ACCU-CHEC” meter to check my blood sugar. It read “67”. I ate one (1) mini candy bar and, an hour later, my “ACCU-CHEC” reading was 97 and I felt fine. What does that mean, medically speaking? Am I not eating enough sugar?

Hi,
I can understand your concern regarding your sugar level.
I must say that if you are not a diabetic, you are not on any diabetes medicine and eat properly then it is a bit unusual to become hypoglycemic. Yes medically, this condition is called Hypoglycemia.
Your blood sugar, normally, should not be less than 80 mg.
So if it is happening frequently, you will have to check with a nearby physician for further evaluation.
I hope my answer helps.
Thanks,

Hello
I have gone through your question and understood your concern.

You had low sugar level or hypoglicemia after eating.
This situation can be explained with a condition called Reactive Hypoglicemia.

Reactive hypoglycemia occurs when blood glucose levels become dangerously low following a meal.

This condition is the result of too much insulin being produced and released by the pancreas following a large carbohydrate-based meal.

This excess insulin production and secretion continues after the glucose derived from the meal has been digested, causing the amount of glucose in the bloodstream to fall to a lower-than-normal level.

So,medically speaking,(as i said earlier),you had Hypoglicemia and in your case it is reactive hypo. This means that you had a large carbohydrate(sugar) breakfast.

My advice for you is to avoid or limit sugary foods and drinks, and eat frequent small meals - the best treatment is to split your daily diet into several small meals and snacks, no more than 3 hours apart., which are less carb-heavy.This is all.

Hope i have clarified all your doubts.
If you have other questions, feel free and ask.
Regards.
