Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do These Cholesterol And HDL Levels Indicate?
Hi I am a long distance runner but had my health screen today with a total cholesterol of 212;HDL of 85; BP of 148/85. My mother has HTN. I am concerned that at 59 my numbers are too high despite my activity level. Do you have any recommendations. I was vegan 2 years ago but have returned to a carnivore diet. Is that what is driving my numbers up? YYYY@YYYY
Dear Sir/ Madam Thanks for your query. 1. An HDL of 85 mg% is very good. Infact a non-HDL cholesterol of 127 is acceptable. 2. It would have been better if you had mentioned the LDL levels too because they are primary aim of intervention in lipid management. 3. Mutton and chicken definitely contribute in increasing bad cholesterol while fish is good for cholesterol management. sincerely Sukhvinder
