What Do You Suggest For A Hard Lump In My Lip After An Injury?
Two months ago I was hit very hard in the mouth front tooth cut through top lip and received stitches. Wound has healed but left Behind a small hard lump in my lip. Is there a possibility that over more time the lump will go away or should I start looking into surgical options?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Trauma causes injury to the tissue. The injury is followed by healing. This process involves inflammation followed by formation of granulation tissue. Granulation tissue is made up of fibroblasts and new blood vessels. The granulation tissue is comparatively harder than the normal skin. The granulation tissue can take time to become soft like it was before. However, sometimes the scar tissue may form hypertrophic scar or keloid. These two lesions are characterized by excessive healing of the fibrous tissue. The scar tissue may grow outside the boundary of the original scar. It is in this case that you need to consult a surgeon for further management else the hardness will disappear with time.
