What Does this thyroid Ultrasound Result Mean?
Cause for concern? Findings from a thyroid ultrasound. Sonographic examination thyroid gland performed. right thyroid lobe measures 4.2x1.2x1.5cm and demonstrates solitary cystic lesions in the inferior pole measuring 7 by 4 x 8 mm without evidence of internal vascularity. Thyroid isthmus within normal limits for thickness at 3mm. Left thyroid lobe measures 4.7x1.9x1.8 cm and demonstrates 3 nodules. The dominant nodule is located in the midportion and demonstrates mild hypoechoic echogenisity with a curcumscribed margin and no significant increased vascularity, measuring 2.8x1.8x1.5cm. Adjacent to this nodule is a more hyperechoic, peripherally calcified nodule measuring 1.0x0.8x0.8cm. There is a hypoechoic cirumscribed nodule also present in the upper pole measuring 0.8x0.8x0.7 cm without internal vascularity. No evidence of cervical adenopathy. bylateral thyroid nodule as decribed. Dominant nodule is located in the left midportion, measuring 2.8cm.

You are advised to do thyroid function test and a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) test to determine above points I mentioned. Once the definitive diagnosis is made based on tests, a detailed treatment plan will be devised for you which also include surgery.
