Hello doctor my son is three months old. He was having a fever 102 so i took him to the doctor..doctor requested for cbc crp urinalysis and urine culture....cbc is completely normal urine report is also normal and culture either...but crp comes 4.4. So the doc said that there must be some infection inside the body because the crp is elevated so much in one day n he has kept my son on antibiotics...my question is how to know which part is infected? Ans does elevated crp means a bacterial infection?
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist, let me advise you, that an elevated serum CRP is a bio-marker of inflammation, in the body. 4.4 is abive normal level. Urine culture is most accurate test for urinary infection. An ultrasound scan would have given some idea, about kidney being a possible source of infection. It also guides us to the need of doing other tests. Antibiotics are given to control infection and fever. If you can send the reports with a scan report here, in my name, i can clear all your doubts. Wishing your son a speedy recovery. Dr.Matthew J.Mangat.
